Grace Health is honored to support these amazing students in their healthcare journey. Join us as we congratulate them on this well-deserved honor.

The Kay Campbell Nursing Scholarship commemorates the memory and enduring influence of Kay Campbell, a dedicated nurse practitioner who devoted her life to nursing. Even as she fought cancer, Kay remained steadfast in her service to patients at the Grace Health clinic in Wooten, Kentucky, showcasing her unwavering dedication to her profession.

The scholarship is designed to empower and motivate senior high school students in Grace Health service areas who are passionate about nursing while encouraging them to excel in their field and contribute to the healthcare needs of southeastern Kentucky.

The 2024 recipients (pictured above from left) are Sophia Adams, Kristopher Hagan, Jaslyn Wall, Emma Moore, Savanna Hoffman, and Madalyn Whitehead. We wish them continued success and are confident they will continue to make positive impacts in their communities and beyond.

Jaslyn is the daughter of Miranda and Dewayne Wall and is enrolled at Morehead State University (MSU) for Fall 2024.

Jaslyn exemplified academic excellence and dedication to her future career in nursing by maintaining a 4.0 GPA in high school and achieving her Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) upon graduation.

Throughout her high school career, Jaslyn was an active participant in numerous organizations and activities, including the Key Club, Beta Club, National Honors Society, Volleyball, Talent Search, Academic Team, Future Problem Solver, Choir, Women's Ministry, Youth Ministry, a nursing pipeline program, and CNA classes. Her remarkable involvement and leadership in these activities underscore her commitment to her community and future profession.

Jaslyn has set ambitious long-term goals to become a nurse practitioner and one day manage a practice. She chose MSU because of its high-ranking nursing program and the welcoming nature of its campus community. Reflecting on her career choice, Jaslyn said, "I've spent much of my life in and out of medical facilities. Through the years, I've realized how much nurses help, and I want to be able to do that as well."

Sophia is the daughter of Michael and Stacy Adams of Manchester and is enrolled at Eastern Kentucky University (EKU) for Fall 2024.

Sophia showed academic excellence and community involvement throughout her high school career. She graduated with a remarkable 4.7 weighted GPA and earned over 30 college credit hours while in high school. Her dedication to her studies and community earned her the Merit Tier 2 scholarship at EKU and recognition as an ARH Mountain Student Achiever.

Throughout high school, Sophia was actively involved in numerous organizations and community service projects. She served in the Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) for two years, holding positions as a junior officer and Vice President of Individual Programs. Her community service efforts with FCCLA included a pajama drive for local schools, a Valentine’s donation event for the local nursing home, and a Thanksgiving food drive. Additionally, Sophia competed in varsity tennis for four years and was involved in advocating and fundraising for a Safe Haven Baby Box in Manchester. She attended the FCCLA State Leadership Conference in both 2023 and 2024, where she judged and showcased community service work.

She was drawn to EKY for its renowned nursing program and proximity to home, allowing her to stay close to her loved ones. She shared, "I have many goals and dreams I’d like to achieve. My biggest dream is to be a nurse practitioner. I chose this path because of my love for helping people." She also credits her family for inspiring her career choice, saying, "Growing up around people who had successful careers helped. When I was a child, my aunt became a nurse practitioner, and I look up to her."

Savanna Hoffman

Barbourville High School

Savanna is the daughter of David and Tabatha Hoffman and is enrolled at University of the Cumberlands (UC) for Fall 2024. She will be a student-athlete, studying nursing and competing on the Patriot Archery team.

Savanna graduated with a 4.364 GPA and has excelled both academically and athletically, earning the Kentucky "All A" Scholarship. She has aspirations of becoming a nurse practitioner focused on serving underserved communities.

Savannah’s academic achievements include being named valedictorian of her class, winning the Conservation Writing Contest for the Kentucky Soil Conservation region, and earning recognition from the National Beta Club Society. She also received an Academic Achievement Award from the House of Representatives for her performance in the 2019 Kentucky Governor's Cup and was honored as an ARH Mountain Student Achiever.

In sports, Savannah has been recognized as the Kentucky High School Athletic Association Academic (KHSAA) All-State in both swimming and archery. She was named Tri-County Female Archer of the Year and the 2023 Scholastic 3D Archery National Female Shooter of the Year. Notably, she won the 2020 National Archery in the School’s Program State Championship with a near-perfect score of 295/300 and received a Citation of Achievement from the House of Representatives for her overall top female performance at the 2019 Martin’s Peterbilt Bullseye Challenge.

Beyond her academic and athletic successes, Savannah has shown a deep commitment to her community. In 2021, she spearheaded an archery tournament to support her former coach, Stephen Hibbard, after his cancer diagnosis. This annual event now draws over 250 archers, with proceeds benefiting community members in financial need. Last year, the tournament, dubbed “Kinsley’s Kure,” raised over $7,000 for a local kindergartener diagnosed with neuroblastoma. Savannah has also been involved in various other community initiatives, including organizing winter food box drives, establishing a communal garden in downtown Barbourville, and founding the Cumberland River Straight Shooters Club in Laurel County, a non-profit dedicated to fostering archery skills.

Kristopher Hagan

North Laurel High School

Kristopher is the son of Kevin and Crystal Hagan of London and is enrolled at Northern Kentucky University (NKU) for Fall 2024.

Kristopher said that his choice to attend NKU was influenced by attending a nursing camp in 2023 as well as its close proximity to clinical opportunities and Cincinnati Children's Hospital.

After earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree from NKU, he hopes to work in a pediatric cardiac intensive care unit (ICU). His long-term goals include returning to NKU to become a certified registered nurse anesthetist (CRNA) and working at Cincinnati Children's Hospital.

During his time at North Laurel High School (NLHS), Kristopher demonstrated outstanding academic and extracurricular achievements, maintaining a 4.0 GPA throughout high school. He was actively involved in various organizations, including FFA, the National Honors Society, BETA Club, and HOSA, where he served as an officer for two years. He also volunteered with FurEver Friends and played varsity soccer, serving as captain during his junior and senior years. His leadership on the field earned him spots on both the All-District and Regional Soccer Teams. His hard work led to receiving an NKU Merit Scholarship and being recognized as the top student in several subjects at NLHS, including Geometry, Algebra I & II, and English.

Kristopher is committed to helping others and being part of a support system for patients on their journey to recovery. His decision to pursue a career in nursing was influenced by his personal experiences. Having witnessed the loss of two grandparents to lung cancer, he saw firsthand the vital role that compassionate and caring nurses play in guiding families through difficult times. These experiences solidified his passion for nursing and confirmed his desire to work in the nursing field.

Madalyn Whitehead

Leslie County High School

A graduate of Leslie County High School with a 4.0 GPA, Madalyn is the daughter of Natasha Fouts of Stinnett and Eric Whitehead of Bledsoe. She is enrolled at Sullivan University Allied Health & College of Nursing in Louisville for the Fall 2024 semester where she plans to earn an Associate Degree in Nursing.

With a passion for women's health, Madalyn aspires to work in labor and delivery. Reflecting on her journey, Madalyn shared, "I want to work in women’s health because I was misdiagnosed for seven years and overlooked because I was young and did not know how to advocate for myself. I want to be the advocate for women like me." Her long-term goal is to obtain a master’s degree in nursing along with midwifery certification.

Throughout her high school career, Madalyn was actively involved in several leadership and extracurricular activities. She served as vice president of Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA), secretary of the National Honor Society, was a member of LinkCrew and Gear Up Leadership, and participated in the AHEC Nursing Pipeline 2 program.

Her dedication to community service and academic excellence was recognized with several accolades, including the 2022 Miss Teen Mary Breckinridge and 2023 Miss Mary Breckinridge Princess titles, as well as several highest GPA awards. She also completed 20 dual credit hours targeted toward nursing school prerequisites and earned her CPR/AED certification. Madalyn gained hands-on experience working as a State Registered Nurse Aid at Hazard Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Madalyn’s commitment to nursing is deeply personal and rooted in her life experiences. She expressed, "Nursing is more than a job - it is a dream and a passion I've wanted all my life."

Emma Moore

Williamsburg High School

Emma Moore is the daughter of Michael and Heather Jarboe of Williamsburg. She graduated high school with an impressive 4.625 weighted GPA while earning not only her high school diploma but also an Associate of Science (A.S.) psychology degree from the University of the Cumberlands.

Emma will continue her education at the University of the Cumberlands this fall, where she plans to specialize as a psychiatric nurse. Inspired by the increasing mental health challenges in her community, particularly among children, Emma aspires to become a nurse practitioner with a focus on children's psychiatry. "My overall goal is to stay in Williamsburg, the community I was raised in, and become a nurse practitioner specializing in mental health to help meet the needs of my community," she shared. "I want to be a source of change for my small town that will last for generations."

Emma's dedication to her community is evident in her vision for the future. "Together, we can make a real difference in the lives of those around us and help build a better future for all," she emphasized, recognizing that great change comes from collaboration.

Throughout high school, Emma was actively involved in various extracurricular activities, including serving as Junior Class President and Senior Class Parliamentarian on the Student Council, being a member of the BETA Club, and participating in the Chick-fil-A Leadership Academy. She received several awards and recognitions, including a perfect score on the English section of the ACT, a Rogers Scholar award, and multiple academic honors.

Emma also excelled in athletics, competing in track and field, cross country, and cheerleading. She had notable performances at state-level competitions, including placing in the top 15 at regional cross-country meets for two consecutive years, which qualified her for the state competition.

Her commitment to service extends beyond the classroom and athletics. Emma has volunteered at Parkway Ministries as a Sunday School Teacher, Coffee Ministry Barista, and Youth Prayer Leader, and has participated in numerous community service projects, including tutoring peers and supporting local charitable initiatives.
